There are some things that constantly remind me that I am in a different country and a different area of the world. For one, the commercials here tend to break out into song and dance. Even the Dominos Pizza commercials have a song and dance. What for? Who knows! It's just seems appropriate to dance while you wait for your pizza. Another interesting commercial here has been a Coke ad that has people on a train trying to figure out who drank the bottle when the train went through a dark tunnel. In the end though that seems irrelevant as all of the passengers find themselves burping and laughing. Make you want to drink a Coke? At least it's more entertaining than the Coke ads that come on after Coke was banned in India for making people sick. Basically in that ad you had a guy in a white jacket in a Coca Cola plant telling you that Coke was safe to drink and that everything had been taken care of. On a different note, there is also a great ad here for a motorcycle that has an entire short movie to it. Basically the ad begins with the "bad" guys biker gang coming and riding around the "cool" guy's motorcycle. Mud gets all over the motorcycle and so the "cool" guy catches up the biker guys on his motorcycle and kicks it into high gear and the mud goes flying off on to the faces of the "bad" guys. Needless to say, India has a different sense of humor and a different style of advertisement. Finally there is a car commercial here that is to appeal to the upper class. There is some stylish music playing as you see a guy getting ready for the office. He has the slick outfit and watch and hair and the car is nice too. After a while you realize that you are only seeing the backseat though. The commercial then goes to a view of the house and the guy walking out to the car that is driving up to him. Yep, the car is to appeal to people who have drivers, which tends to be the majority of people in this side of the world who have cars, and never in the ad do you actually see the driver's seat. It will certainly be different coming back to a country that replaces dancing in its commercials with a plot that is applicable to the product being sold.
